Down, But Not Out.

Some stirring words from recently deposed Liberal Party leader, Malcolm Turnbull, and what reads as a direct challenge to the newly install leader, Tony Abbott.

"Not that anyone would doubt it, but I will be voting for the ETS legislation when it returns in February and if my colleagues have any sense they will do so as well."

If that's not a kick to the crotch for Abbott, I don't know what is. There are at least 41 disaffected Liberals in the party room right now who might very well agree with Turnbull's sour grapes commentary on Tony Abbott's non-position on climate change. This leadership fracas is not over yet. Turnbull has cut to the meat of the matter when he identifies integrity as the party's Achille's Heel. It has none and protestations from Abbott about his changes of heart & apologies for past bursts of buffoonary are not going to instil any. Keep watching the Turnbull space. I'm seriously starting to believe he's going to come again.

Zombies All

It's a replay of the past for Tony Abbott. A re-making of Back to the Future or Night of the Living Dead. Phillip Ruddock certainly fits the bill, as does Kevin Andrews and let's not forget the House matriarch, Bronwyn Bishop. Conservative soldiers well and truly past their use-by dates. It's a sign of the conservative times that so little new blood worthy of support within the Liberal Party - isn't that a contradiction - that Abbott feels he needs the backing of former Howardites in order to construct some form of ideological fortress around himself. The really sad part of the matter being that Abbott is simply parrotting the Howardian way. Fear & loathing. Thing is though, Howard could pull it off through sheer force of personality. Abbott doesn't have a personality and completely lacks integrity as he's already proven. Should prove an interesting contest when the Parliament resumes in February.

New World Order

The Copenhagen Climate Change talks were always destined to be little more than a talk-fest.

Take Your Feed and Shove It

readerpoll.JPGNo cleaned feed, thank you, Stephen Conroy. In fact, you can take your politically-oriented, hidden agenda internet filtering plan and shove into your anal orifice if it's such a wonderful device for cleaning your feed. Clearly, judging from the results of an online poll conducted by Fairfax, 11,228 people out of 11,813 feel just as I do on the matter. You're impinging on my freedom to choose, Stephen Conroy, a freedom which is innately mine by right as an adult. A voting adult, if I need to remind you.

If Jim Wallace and his bible-bashing Australian Christian Lobby minority think filtering their internet feed is appropriate, then good for them. I don't and 95% of Australians appear to agree. The issue is not one of protecting children, that's a parent's job, not one for government. The issue is one of individual personal freedoms.

If this issue gets up in the Senate, which I seriously doubt, then Prime Minister Rudd can kiss any re-election farewell. Forget Climate Change or 'Big New Taxes'. Such issues pale into insignficance alongside that of a government attempting to deliberately subvert a societies freedom to choose. Australia is not a theocratically socialist society and ought not be beholden to the minority views or the closed minded inadequacies of those who would reneg on their parental responsibilities, providing any government with an excuse to curtail choice.

SAY NO TO ANY ATTEMPT TO CLEAN YOUR FEED!

Just about to doze off last night, with Radio National playing on the clock radio on a timer, when the midnight news came on.
